Kitchen Aid Mixer

When I got married nearly 40 years ago now my brother- in -law gave me a Kenwood Mixer with all the attachments. I was thrilled with it and I must say it worked faultlessly for 37 years. Making this years Christmas Cake the poor thing blew up, yes flames and all. I truly couldn’t fault the machine as I think I only ever had it serviced once in all the years I used it most weeks. It made quiches for summer parties, Christmas Cakes, Birthday Cakes and lots more to feed two growing boys and a husband who all particularly loved chocolate sponge cake.

Looking to get a replacement I did think of another Kenwood but then I discovered the wonderful colours and styling of Kitchen Aid and wow was I in love. The machines are styled to suit any taste and kitchen and they are fantastic mixers. The one thing about the Americans is they always’ over engineer’ things so they last and last. The motor on this thing could mix concrete (not that I would suggest that) so my sour dough bread mix or fruit cake mix is a doddle, it’s the Rambo of mixers. It’s also such a lovely addition to my kitchen. It’s the sort of item that gives you such a warm feeling of satisfaction that you own such a nice thing. I have to tell you that I just LOVE pink and so after lots of soul searching I thought ‘so what, it’s your mixer ….just get the pink’ so I did. It arrived with two stainless steel mixer bowls which are very easy to clean and look very smart. However, the very clever people at Kitchen Aid have gone one step further and have fashioned lots of lovely mixer bowls in various colours designs and materials. I went for a fabulous flowery ceramic bowl which I adore. I’m utterly amazed that the manufacturers managed to put the indents in the base of the bowl so that it slots beautifully into the groves at the base of the mixer holding it in place.

These mixers aren’t cheap, but it’s well worth saving up and buying something that could last a lifetime. I know this one will hopefully see me out and I will bequeath my lovely mixer to my gorgeous grandaughter who hopefully will keep up the family tradition of enjoying baking and cooking.
